Antares is the brightest star in the constellation scorpius and is the fifth-brightest observable star in the night sky. Named for its equal footing to the Greek God Ares, it is easy to see why we chose „Antares“ as the name for the line of brass snare drums. Each drum makes a bold statement with heavy yellow brass tube lugs and a raw finished 0.7mm brass shell.
Adorned with 2.3mm yellow brass or black nickel over steel hoops, the Antares evokes images of battle-worn Grecian armor while retaining a subtle elegance.
The multi-step Trick Drums strainer allows for precise tension adjustments making the Antares suitable for conventional kit playing as well as orchestral work. The shell itself is dramatically undersized at the top and the bottom to create a tympani effect with remarkable resonance.

Every musical instrument is unique, not only in its construction, but also in the way it is finished, which has a significant influence not only on its appearance, but also on its sound and maintenance. Here we take you through the different finish options we offer and explain what makes each one different.

**Gold plating:**
The gold plating of our instruments not only gives them an aesthetically pleasing appearance, but also influences the sound character. An instrument with a gold-plated finish offers a darker, warmer sound, ideal for musicians seeking a deep and rich tone color. In terms of maintenance, gold-plated instruments are quite uncomplicated. They are durable and only require gentle cleaning to maintain their shine.

**Silver-plated:**
Silver-plated instruments are known for their radiant, broad sound. This finish is ideal for musicians who prefer a clear presence and wide-ranging sonority. Although silver-plated instruments require more maintenance, they are durable and resistant to the daily demands of music-making.

**Lacquered:**
A lacquered instrument is characterized by a focused, pithy sound. This finish is perfect for those who prefer a clear and direct sound. However, the longevity of a lacquered finish is limited; it can show signs of wear after just one year, with no guarantee of durability. Gentle care is required to prolong its life.

**Vintage (Clear/Matt):**
Vintage instruments also offer a focused, robust sound. These instruments are easy to maintain and are available in two finishes: clear and matte. While the clear version emphasizes traditional elegance, the matte finish offers a more subtle, understated look. Both variants require only gentle care.

**Raw:**
Instruments with a raw finish deliver a gritty, open sound that is particularly popular with jazz and blues musicians. Theoretically, these instruments do not require regular maintenance, but verdigris can build up over time, which can deposit on musicians' hands. Although this patina is an added attraction for some, musicians should be prepared to deal with dirty hands.

The finish is raw and sealed with a special oil.
The unique surface texture that forms during the manufacturing process gives each drum its own character.
Oiling slows down the natural patina development process but does not prevent it. It also gives the drum a beautiful matte sheen.

The natural patina continues to develop over time, depending on how the instrument is handled (contact with sweaty hands, spilled drinks, etc.) and the surrounding conditions (humidity, salty sea air, etc.).
While the first fingerprints may seem alarming to some, the finish generally darkens over the years, developing a beautiful patina – and with it, the visible history of the drum!

These instruments do not require regular care but can be polished at any time if desired.

**Raw Lacquered:**

The finish is raw and coated with a clear baked-on lacquer.
The unique surface texture that forms during the manufacturing process gives each drum its own character.
The transparent baked-on coating preserves it and makes the drum shine.
Gentle care is recommended to extend the lifespan of the finish.

**Dark Vintage:**

The surface is patinated using a special process and then sealed with a clear baked-on coating.
This unique "vintage" finish makes the instrument a true one-of-a-kind piece.
The clear baked-on coating preserves it and also makes the drum shine.
Gentle care is recommended to extend the lifespan of the finish.

**Patina:** #NEW
The surface is patinated using a special process and then sealed with oil at it´s final step.
This unique "vintage" finish makes the instrument a true one-of-a-kind piece.
The additional preservation with oil gives the drum a matte sheen.
Since no lacquer coating is applied, the sound remains bold and open.
A slight darkening or the development of a natural patina on polished parts, such as tension lugs, is possible.
Gentle care is recommended to extend the lifespan of the finish.
