Patrik Hofer - Schagerl Artist

How long have you been playing Schagerl trumpets?
Since 2008
How did you come to Schagerl?
I took part in the 1st Schagerl Brass Festival in 2008, where I also chose the first Bb trumpet.
Which instruments do you use?
I still rely on my Hörsdorf heavy Bb from 2008 and Hörsdorf heavy C from 2012, both instruments are my trusted instruments in daily use 🙂
What criteria does an instrument have to fulfil for you?
Everything has to fit :-)) Seriously, the sound is extremely important to me. An open sound also gives me a good playing feel. The intonation should also be good in all registers. These are my main criteria when choosing, after that it's like in a relationship: you have to get to know each other slowly and grow closer and closer 🙂
Who has influenced you in your career?
My professor at the time, Karl Steininger, gave me my first insights into the classical symphony orchestra, and I was allowed to play the Verdi Requiem as a substitute with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra at the age of 17. The Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra fuelled my interest in the symphony orchestra even more and finally, at the age of 21, I made the leap from Innsbruck to Berlin. The academies at the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic made it clear to me that I wanted to play in an orchestra professionally. I have Gábor Tarkövi to thank in particular for the fact that I was able to join the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra just one year later. In addition to his professional expertise, he exudes the joy and fun of practising and playing the trumpet, which is exactly what got me to the level I needed to get one of the few open orchestral positions.
