Otmar Gaiswinkler

About the Artist

Born in Schärding, Otmar Gaiswinkler received his first trombone lessons at the age of nine at the State Music School Andorf. In 1985, he was accepted at the Music High School Linz and at the former Bruckner Conservatory Linz (class of Josef Kürner) and transferred to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna in 1990 with Horst Küblböck. He received his first engagement in 1993 at the Bruckner Orchestra Linz. Since 1996, Otmar Gaiswinkler has been the principal trombonist of the Vienna Symphony. In addition, he has performed with various ensembles such as the Austrian Brass Connection, the Vienna Academy, the Concentus Musicus Wien, and is a founding member of the Vienna Trombone Quartet. He is a sought-after soloist with various chamber orchestras at home and abroad and conducts master classes in Taiwan, Poland, Germany, and the USA. Since 2007, he has been a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.
