Martin
Riener was born in 1987 in Linz and received his first lessons on the tenor
horn at the age of eight from Hans Peter Gaiswinkler at the Landesmusikschule
Altenberg near Linz. After three years, he switched to the trombone. Starting
in 2001, Martin Riener attended the Musikgymnasium Linz and initially
participated in the preparatory course at the University of Music and
Performing Arts Vienna with Dietmar Küblböck (Vienna Philharmonic) and Otmar
Gaiswinkler (Vienna Symphony). After passing the Matura, he became a full-time
student in the concert subject. He is the winner of many competitions such as
Musica Juventutis or Gradus ad Parnassum (2011). In addition, he has completed
numerous master classes, among others with lecturers like Horst Küblböck, Wolfgang
Pfistermüller, Stefan Schulz, Joseph Alessi, and Leonhard Paul. Martin Riener
performs regularly in orchestras such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the
Vienna Philharmonic, and at the Vienna State Opera. He is also regularly seen
in the ensemble die reihe and is a member of the Vienna Brass Connection. From
2007 to 2016, he was a trombonist at the Vienna Volksoper. In 2016, he switched
to the Vienna Symphony, where he has been active as the 1st trombonist since
2019.
