Johannes Peer was born on August 29, 1962, in Ladis, Tyrol. After completing his training as a brass instrument maker, he began studying trumpet at the Conservatory in Innsbruck.
From 1984, Hannes Peer studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, graduating with honors and a commendation prize. During his studies, Johannes Peer substituted at the ORF Symphony Orchestra, the Tonkünstler Orchestra, and the Stage Orchestra of the Federal Theaters. He was also a member of the Pro Brass ensemble for many years.
Johannes Peer has been a member of the Bruckner Orchestra Linz since November 1986.
