Bass trombonist Eirik A. Devold comes from Halden, and gives the music life in his home town much of the credit for him becoming a musician:
He later studied music at Norges Musikkhøgskole. After his studies he worked in Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Eirik was engaged by the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in 2003. He has been a soloist both with this and other orchestras several times. He also plays in the brass ensemble Norwegian Brass Expo.
− What gives me the most pleasure as a musician, is to have played a good concert. It gives you an enormous sense of achievement, at the same time knowing that you as musicians have spread happiness to and enriched the lives of those sitting in the concert hall.
The composers closest to his heart are Gustav Mahler, Anton Bruckner, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Richard Strauss. One concert with music by Strauss stands out as one of Eirik’s best memories with the orchestra:
− I actually had my greatest experience with the Oslo Philharmonic before I had a permanent position here, when I at eighteen went to the Salzburg Festival and the Proms in London. Mariss Jansons conducted Alpine Symphony by Strauss.
