The band includes entire instrument families (clarinets, saxophones, flutes and all the brass instruments), as well as the harp and low pitched string instruments - cello and double bass. Its first conductors were the composer Ricardo Villa and the maestro Pablo Sorozábal. With a wide repertoire, its concerts have included pieces by composers such as Esplá, Ravel, Wagner, Falla, Chapí and Albéniz. The Madrid Municipal Symphonic Band usually performs two sets of concerts at the Teatro Monumental theatre (in autumn and winter), and one in the Retiro Park bandstand (spring-summer season), as well as other extraordinary performances. Although it almost always performs in Madrid, the orchestra has also put on concerts in other cities in Spain and Europe.
