Our success story

For over half a century, the family-owned business, now in its second generation, has evolved from a music shop with a repair workshop into one of the world's most renowned instrument manufacturers. The sound and fine quality of the instruments, handcrafted in the small town of Hörsdorf near Mank in the district of Melk, Lower Austria, now captivate orchestral musicians from around the globe. True to the company motto "In quality we trust", all master instruments are entirely made in-house. The collaboration with the already during his lifetime legendary Prof. Hans Gansch, former principal trumpeter of the Vienna Philharmonic and professor at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, began with the development of the rotary valve trumpets 25 years ago.

1961

Company formation and the first years

Karl Schagerl Senior and his wife Josefa opened a music store in Mank, Lower Austria, that distributes instruments from renowned manufacturers.

1970

The 70s

The company grows and hires two more employees. Karl Schagerl's children join the team, bringing in their specializations, which expands both the workforce and the company's expertise.

1978

Instrument Making

Under professional guidance, Schagerl begins the construction of violins and develops high-quality trumpets and flugelhorns. Soon, renowned musicians became customers, including Helmut Wobisch of the Vienna Philharmonic and trumpet soloist as well as Professor Carol Dawn Reinhart from the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna.

1989

Change of leadership

Karl Schagerl Junior takes over the management of the business.

1994

Master Workshop

Robert Schagerl acquires the master craftsman title in brass instrument making.

1996

Business Expansion

The company significantly expands its premises, with five large workshops and additional space for sales, administration, and storage.

2001

Business Expansion & 40th Anniversary

In celebration of the 40th anniversary, the company once again significantly expands its premises. The master workshop is moved to the upper floor, and the existing space is almost doubled. The sales areas are enlarged and redesigned. Additionally, a multi-day celebration takes place, featuring an open house, concerts, workshops, and much more.

2008

Schagerl Brass Festival in Mank

The first Schagerl Brass Festival takes place. Numerous workshops and concerts throughout Mank invigorate the town and excite musicians worldwide. Concerts by the "Brass Band Oberösterreich" featuring soloist Hans Gansch, as well as performances by the "Austrian Brass Connection" and "Mnozil Brass," are the highlights of the festival.

2010

Schagerl Music GmbH

In 2010, the company Karl Schagerl e.U. was transformed into Schagerl Music GmbH.

2011

Schagerl Brass Festival at Stift Melk

The second Schagerl Brass Festival takes place for the first time at Melk Abbey. More than 5,000 visitors celebrate together with the "crème de la crème" of the brass music scene over five days and nights, featuring concerts by the "European Brass Ensemble," the "Schagerl All Star Big Band," and "Mnozil Brass," along with numerous workshops.

50th Anniversary

For the 50th company anniversary, not only does the second Brass Festival take place, but the new online presence of Schagerl Music GmbH is also launched.

2012

Maezenas- & Innovation Award

In addition to the most modern production methods, emphasis is also placed on energy efficiency and environmental compatibility. These efforts were recognized in 2012 with the Innovation Award and the Maezenas Award for Cultural Sponsorship.

On October 24th, Schagerl Music GmbH was presented with the Karl Ritter von Ghega Innovation Award at the Cityhotel D&C in the state capital St. Pölten. This award is given annually by the Chamber of Commerce to the best entrepreneurs in Lower Austria.

In the "Business to Customer" category, the music house Schagerl from Mank emerged victorious, whose instruments are played all over the world: in major symphony orchestras, by outstanding soloists and ensembles, as well as in brass bands and music schools.

2014

Schagerl Brass Festival at Stift Melk

The third and for the time being last Schagerl Brass Festival takes place at Melk Abbey, again with more than 5,000 visitors over five days. Numerous workshops and concerts featuring the "who's who" of the international brass scene, uniting talents from Caracas to Australia in Lower Austria.

since 2015

Schagerl Brass Academy

Since 2015, we have been organizing the Schagerl Brass Academy several times a year, offering masterclasses for students and dedicated musicians. This initiative aims to promote brass music and was established following the great success of the workshops at the Schagerl Brass Festival.

2016

Expansion of the repair workshop

The in-house repair workshop is expanded to allow for quicker handling of repairs and service requests.

2021

60th Anniversary

The Schagerl Music GmbH celebrates its 60th company anniversary.

1996 - now

Fine tuning

Schagerl continuously improves and refines its master instruments, including models such as the "Gansch Horn", "Killer Queen," "Berlin", "James Morrison" and "Superbone", in collaboration with top musicians like Thomas Gansch, Gábor Tarkövi and James Morrison.
