Matthias Kernstock was born 1992 in Sankt Pölten. Since 2012 he studies at MUK (Private University for Music and Art), first in the Bachelor’s program with Johann Plank, from 2014 with Roman Rindberger. Currently he is completing his Master degree in the class of Peter Fliecher. He attended Master courses with Hakan Hardenberger, Gabor Tarkövi, Martin Angerer, Hans Gansch, Tamas Velenczei, Robert Rother, Wolfgang Guggenberger, Thomas Lachtner, Christian Löw, Lorenz Raab, Daniel Neumann, Chris Martin and Sergei Nakariakov.

Kernstock already substituted in various Orchestras like the Tonkünstler Orchestra Lower Austria, the Symphony Orchestra for the Volksopera Vienna,  the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna or at the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg.

2016 he got a position at the Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra-Academy.
If time allows, he also plays in the Brass Band of his hometown Wilhelmsburg.

NOW, he is the Pricipal Trumpet from the Vienna Symphonic
