ABOUT THE ARTIST

Matt is a trumpet player hailing from Sydney, Australia. He studied Jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the tutelage of one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most highly regarded performers and educators, Mr Simon Sweeney, and has since built a reputation as one of the go-to all-round trumpet players in Sydney. He enjoyed a highly active and diverse career with many of the top ensembles in town: Big Bands, Salsa Bands, Pop Acts, Brass Bands, Wind Bands, Orchestras, and of course regularly in the Broadway pits. Recently he has held the Lead Trumpet chair on shows such as Mary Poppins, West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera and more.

He now resides in Austria, holding the position of Assistant Lead Trumpet at Synchron Stage Vienna. They specialise as a Studio Recording Orchestra laying down Film, TV and Game scores for clients such as Disney, 20th Century Fox, EA Games and many more global industry leaders.

Matt currently has two albums releases, both projects born from the 2020 covid lockdowns. “Sydney Trumpet Quintet: Volume One” and “Blackford and Collins: New Australian Music for Brass”, a multi-tracked album with celebrated Australian Euphonium Virtuoso, James Blackford.

About Model “1961”

“Indiana Jones once went on a crusade for the Holy Grail. It’s a shame he never thought to look in Melk, because he would have found it straight away, and with far less trouble! The 1961 is in fact that Holy Grail I’ve been searching for.

A fantastically rich core. Excellent flexibility. Brilliant response, perfect tuning, and can be wielded to produce any of the colours that we are required to give at the drop of a hat in the Studio. The 1961 is a sheer joy to play. I’ve always wanted to have one horn that I can use to fit the entire range of tonal qualities that my career requires, and to say I’m impressed with what Schagerl have designed would be a gross understatement. It is indeed, super!”
